Slow start sinks Blackhawks The Caledon Blackhawks minor atom selects faced off against the Brampton Sharpshooters Nov. 3 at the Bolton arena for the second time this season. The Blackhawks hoped to avenge their earlier lost. The Sharpshooters had other plans. Sharpshooters jumped out to an early 2-0 before the end of the first period despite the early solid goaltending of Russ McCanna and scoring chances by Christopher Cola and David Ryan. The second period started with the Blackhawks not being able to capitalize on the opportunities presented to them. The Sharpshooters pushed forward, taking a 4-0 lead before the last 3 minutes of the period. The Blackhawks, not wanting to enter the final frame down by 4, pressured the Sharpshooters. Finally breaking through was Steve Luongo scoring from Tyler Gillis and Michael Upshall. The late second period goal seemed to give the Blackhawks new life as they scored twice more before the 3rd period was half over, with Ethan Clarke and Zachary Infusini potting the goals and Cola and Eric Lowry drawing assists. That drew the Blackhawks within 1 at 4-3, but that was as close as they would get with the Sharpshooters putting the game away with their 5th goal with just 29 seconds left. Final score 5-3. The coach's pick for player of the game was Christopher Cola. The Caledon Blackhawks would like to send a special thank you to everyone who bought tickets for their fund-raising raffle. Winners were: 1st prize, 2 Gold seats for Leafs vs. Canadiens, Patti MacDonald; 2nd prize, GRIT Hockey Tower, Tim Winter; 3rd prize, MARS Canada Gift Basket, Ethan Clarke. Thanks also to the following player sponsors: Line-X, United Lumber, Karen Wilcock Royal LePage RCR Realty, Bramalea Tire. |
