Local authors visit Caledon library

The Margaret Dunn Valleywood Branch of Caledon Public Library recently hosted a special afternoon with local authors Ron Page and Bette Page. Ron and Bette delighted the members of the Valley Girls Book Club at their monthly meeting in October.

Ron is the author of Avro Arrow, a fascinating historical record with an extensive collection of rare and highly prized photos, drawings and diagrams. Using 200 images, the book traces the story of the Arrow from its inception to roll out and flight test, including advanced proposals for the development of future version.

Bette is the author of Mynarski's LANC, The fascinating stories of two Canadian Lancaster bombers - KB726 and FM213 - and their crew. Andrew Mynarski earned his Victoria Cross in KB726, now known as the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster. The book contains special documentation of the nine-year restoration program for Lancaster FM213, the only flying example of this aircraft in North America. Bette is a member of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and assisted her husband, Ron, in the writing of a number of books on aircraft history.

From their opening remarks both authors captivated the audience with the stories of the events as unfolded in their books as well as sharing details of the writing process.

One special guest in the audience was Arthur Johnston who had flown the Lancaster Bomber during the war.

Copies of both books are available through any Caledon Public Library branch.
