Caledon minor bantam selects undefeated after nine games The Caledon Blackhawks minor bantam selects played the Brampton Spitfires, in inter-city play at Terry Miller Arena, Saturday, Nov. 3. This contest saw a tentative Blackhawks team struggling to find their game. The Spitfires played an aggressive game, breaking up Blackhawk plays while peppering their goal with shot after shot. In the end, the Blackhawks managed to play the Spitfires to a 3-3 draw. A fast-skating Spitfire team scored early in the game and maintained offensive pressure on the Blackhawks throughout. Refusing to give up, the Blackhawks fought their way back from two, onegoal deficits to tie the game, after two periods of play. The third period saw each team scoring a third goal. Blackhawk goals came from Michael Rybka (tip in), Daniel Cafagna (rebound) and Cory Graham (wrist shot). Assists went to Zachary Worth and Mitchell Sheppard. Outstanding play by Blackhawk goalies, Drew Eden and Simon Serpe preserved the tie and extended the team's unbeaten streak now to nine games. Blackhawks have five wins and four draws this season. Cheering Caledon fans enjoyed the hard-fought contest; they breathed a deep sigh of relief, when the final buzzer sounded. Hawks win 8th The Caledon Blackhawks Minor Bantam Selects hosted the Brampton Sharpshooters, in inter-city play at Mayfield arena Tuesday, Oct. 30. Both teams played wide open hockey featuring end to end rushes, great passing and solid hitting. Scoring chances were plentiful for both teams and all players. The Blackhawks, however, found their scoring touch and overwhelmed the Sharpshooters 9-1 for their fifth win of the season. Strong forechecking by Michael Rybka and Mathew Nespolo challenged sharpshooter players, disrupted passes and retrieved loose pucks throughout the game. Blackhawks defencemen kept their goalmouth clear of loose pucks and Sharpshooter players. The short passing game continued to serve the Blackhawks well, creating odd man rushes in the offensive zone. Goal scorers included Lucus D'Acri (3), Cory Graham (2), Daniel Cafagna (2), Matteo Palombi (1), and Trevor Moore (1). Assists went to Vittorio Sammarco (3), Zachary Worth (2), Lucus Trevisan (2), Daniel Cagagna (1), Trevor Moore (1), Matteo Palombi (1) and Iain Wong (1). Sharp goaltending by Blackhawk goalies Eden and Serpe held a continuous Sharpshooters attack to a single goal. Blackhawks are unbeaten this season with five wins and three draws. This win was received as a pre-Halloween treat enjoyed by Caledon coaches and fans alike. |
