Early morning commercial property fire

Monday, Nov. 5, at approximately 4:53 a.m., Caledon Fire & Emergency Services was dispatched to a reported commercial property fire at Wood Waste Systems located at 12673 Coleraine Dr. in the Bolton fire district.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a very large pile of wood pallets and shredded lumber well involved in fire with flames estimated to be close to 100 feet in the air.

Due to the significant fire risk posed by the property and the location and volume of fire, additional assistance was required. Firefighters were forced to use more than 1,000 feet of supply hose to reach the fire from the hydrant located on Coleraine Drive, according to chief Brad Bigrigg.

Firefighters worked for close to 2 hours to bring the fire under control. As there is some deep seated fire associated with the piles of shredded lumber, Caledon firefighters were required to remain on scene for an extended period of time.

Brampton Fire & Emergency Services provided standby emergency coverage for the south half of Caledon until the fire was brought under control.

The cause is under investigation and damage is estimated at $ 10,000.

Agencies responding included Bolton, Caledon East, Palgrave and Valleywood fire stations, Peel EMS, Caledon OPP and Region of Peel Spills Control.
