Library room dedicated to Ena Badger

The Ena Badger Room was unveiled at the Caledon Public Library's Albion Bolton Branch last Monday night during the Volunteer Appreciation celebration. Ena Badger was joined by her daughters Win Mellor-Hay (left) and Elaine Allenger (right) at the ceremony.
A former chairman of the Caledon Public Library Board was honoured last Monday night with the dedication of a room in her name at the Albion Bolton Branch.

Ena Badger has been involved with the Caledon Public Library for many years serving in various capacities.

First and foremost as a library patron she has always been an avid reader and a strong supporter of literacy. Among her many talents, Badger is an avid speller and for a number of years has represented Caledon Public Library at the Peel Literacy Guild's annual spelling bee.

She was instrumental in the establishment and continuous success of the Friends of the Caledon Public Library. Many know her as the revered judge for the Friend's annual Scrabble with the Stars. Although she stepped down from the role two years ago, just two weeks ago at the 13th annual event, she once again donned the famous role and wig and resumed her role as the judge when her predecessor was unable to attend.

During the Caledon Public Library's Volunteer Appreciation celebration, music was provided by Synergy, Tina Daalderop (left) and Freda Wrench.
Badger was a Caledon Public Library Board member and held the position of chairman for two terms. During her tenure she was instrumental in the partnership between the Dufferin- Peel Roman Catholic school board and the Caledon Public Library to build the Caledon East Branch and the Robert F. Hall co-operative library. As well she helped to negotiate the partnership with the Peel board of education in the development of the Belfountain Branch and Belfountain Public School Library.

She was always a champion of the library staff, advocating for everything from job equity to staff training to employee recognition. It's important to note that her terms of office were during recession times and at a time of an information explosion and yet she rose to these challenges and secured the value of the library as a cornerstone in the Caledon community.
