Peel Region official plan review takes focus

The Peel Region Official Plan Review work program, which outlines the approach the Region will take in reviewing its Official Plan, was approved by Peel Regional council. The work program was developed with input from area municipalities to ensure the work involved on the Region and area municipality official plans is complementary.

The Region, Mississauga, Brampton and the Town of Caledon are all currently working toward a June 16, 2009 deadline to have their respective official plan policies conform to the Government of Ontario's Greenbelt Plan, Provincial Policy Statement and Places to Grow Act.

As a result, the Peel Region Official Plan will complement and support the area municipal official plans.

"Close collaboration with the area municipalities will result in a comprehensive Official Plan review process," said Councillor Elaine Moore, chair of the environment, transportation and planning services committee. "As the review process continues through to the 2009 deadline, the Region and the area municipalities will each focus on areas that fall under their respective jurisdictions while working together in a collaborative manner."

"The Region will thoroughly research its focus areas and develop topical discussion papers that are expected to be released this coming winter. We also continue to invite public involvement and welcome citizen input," said Arvin Prasad, director, planning policy and research.
