Roth Hawks down Flamborough, Stoney Creek October 16 saw Roth Diamond Tool AE Hawks on the road at Fergus. The boys started well and were rewarded at 2:50 in the first when Fernando Zambito cashed in unassisted. Early in the second it was the play-making of Cody Ruff and Connor Longlade Oswald setting up Brandon Richard for the finish. With 2:31 to go in the second Richard worked the puck back to the point where Joseph DiMarco pounded home the long shot. Finally in the third it was the red-hot combo of Richard to Connor Longlade Oswald for the fourth and final goal. Nathan Cole stooped all 22 of the Fergus shots to earn the shutout victory. Sunday, Oct. 21 the Hawks were back in action in Flamborough. Striking first with 3:45 to go in the first was Chris Scrivo from Connor Oswald. Flamborough replied at 10:37 in the second only to have Oswald again assist Scrivo for his second marker. Flamborough evened it up mid period but three minutes later it was David Rothfuchs rifling in a wicked point shot which was scooped up by Cameron Miller for a nifty wrap around tally. Following this it was Joseph DiMarco feeding Connor Oswald for a clean break away with the sick back hand deke top corner. In the third the Hawks ruled with Fernando Zambito setting up Alex Boughen one minute in. With less than three minutes to play Richard found Ryan Rausch with the smooth hands counting the sixth and final Hawks goal. Taylor Elkins was solid in the cage stopping 16 Flamborough chances en route to the 6-2 win. October 22 the Hawks were back home to face their nemesis the Stoney Creek Warriors. Nerves were all a jangle as the last meeting went very poorly for the Hawks with numerous serious injuries and a lop-sided score against them. This game started differently when off the first faceoff the Hawks got the puck deep into Warrior country. The big Captain Cameron Miller set the tone as he filled in the defenceman on the forecheck while Ryan Briggs dug out the loose puck to Rausch who in turn fed the puck perfectly back to the slot for Miller's one timer at 9:42. Later in the period it was Briggs earning his second point as he found David Rothfuchs whose laser shot seemed to go right through the goalie glove into the cage. Stoney Creek found their legs and scored a power play goal at 13:55 of the third then pressed for another six to seven minutes against a staunch Hawks defence composed of Cody Ruff, Daniel Butts, Clark Stewart, Joseph DiMarco and David Rothfuchs. At 4:13 it was Alex Boughen and David Rothfuchs with the play making to Richard with a blistering shot home. With only 10 seconds left in the second Rausch passed to Rothfuchs who found Richard in the slot for the wrist shot twine-tickler. At 12:14 in the third the Warriors mounted a rally with their second goal. Less than a minute later a Daniel Butts point shot rebound was deposited by the hat trick king Bolton's Rocket Richard. Kyle Sammut was welcomed back to his former squad as a very forceful call up. Cole was marvelous in the net stopping 18 Warrior attempts and silencing the visiting crowd. A huge win for our boys.
