Hat trick for Luongo in loss to Bombers

The Caledon Blackhawks minor atom selects played against the Brampton Bombers Oct. 27 at Terry Miller.

Only 8 seconds into the game the Bombers showed they meant business scoring the first goal.

The game went back and forth with both sides having opportunities during power plays but the scored remained 1-0. The Bombers finally pulled further ahead scoring with 3:26 left in the period. That lit the fire under the Blackhawks and no more than 14 seconds later, Steve Luongo scored unassisted, drawing them closer at 2-1. A minute later, Luongo did it again with Eric Lowry and Chris Hunter drawing assists. The period ending 2-2.

Starting the 2nd period on an even playing field gave the Blackhawks new life. The period almost ended as it had started, but with 2:48 left, the Bombers scored. Then with only a minute on the clock the Bombers did it again, going up 4-2.

The Blackhawks gathered around the bench before the 3rd period for some last minute instructions from coach McCanna. A lot of work had to be done. A couple minutes into the period, the Bombers moved to protect their lead when they scored another goal.

Hope was given back to the fans with 3 minutes left. Luongo completed a hat trick with assists from Hunter and Gavin Stone. Now 5-3 the gap was tighter but that just pushed the Bombers. With 2 minutes left on the clock, they secured the win with another goal. Final 6-3.

Steve Luongo was the coaches pick for the game.
