Blackhawk juggernaut rolls over the competition

The Caledon major bantam select Blackhawks have racked up an impressive start to their season by winning their first 6 games.

In the season opener the Hawks grounded the Lightning 7-1. The Hawks quickly went ahead 3-0 in the 1st period and never looked back. The superior puck movement exhibited by them overpowered a tired and disorganized Lightning squad and kept them back on their heels the entire game.

The Hawks took their revenge against the Brampton Bombers for The Cup loss last year by trouncing them 6-2. Again, this was another tremendously entertaining game from a Hawk point of view. Andrew Fellin opened the scoring early in the 1st period from Harry Gaebler, and this was quickly followed by Christian Bonaldi from Michael Bellisario and Zachary Moszynski. The flood gates opened in the 2nd period when Vincent Maiolino finished off the work started by Warren Stroud and James Harkins.

Kyle Sammut popped in the next two with assists going to Bonaldi, Gaebler, and Anthony Gasbarre. Gaebler capped off the night with Sammut and Gasbarre earning the helpers.

September 22 saw the Hawks triumph over the Brampton Spitfires to the tune of 4-1. Fellin whacked home the 1st goal from Justin Lollino. Harkins followed next from Maiolino, then Lollino converted some nifty passing from Robert Keszeg and Fellin into the Hawks' 3rd goal. Bonaldi put the icing on the cake early in the 3rd period from linemates Bellisario and Keszeg.

Netminder Torrey Glendinning limited the Brampton offensive to one goal.

Game 4 saw the boys cork the Brampton Sharpshooters 3-0. Hawk goal scorers were Sammut - from Damian Commisso, Bellisario - from Sammut, and Moszynski - from Sammut and Harkins. Goaltender Joseph Viola earned his 1st shutout of the season while Vincent Minicucci kept the slot free of Greenbacks.

In the rematch game against the Brampton Bombers the Hawks proved that they meant business by trouncing them 5-1. The team came out of the 1st period with a 1-0 lead in a goal by Lollino and the assist to Harkins.

The next period was all Blackhawks as a three-goal scoring outburst by Stroud put the game out of reach. He was dangerous every time he was on the ice. Flanked by wingers Fellin and Lollino this dynamite line showed great poise and control as they moved the puck around in the offensive zone. The Bombers, by this time were in full scramble mode trying to fend off the Blackhawk offensive machine. This breakdown enabled Bonaldi to finish off a pass from Bellisario for the Hawk's 5th goal.

October 14 saw the boys travel to Victoria Park arena for a rematch against the Brampton Sharpshooters. By now everyone was dreading the Blackhawk juggernaut as it rolled onto the ice. The Hawks wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. Bellisario was 1st, with assists to Bonaldi and Stroud. Gaebler finished off some nice work by Commisso and Maiolino for their 2nd goal. They went up 3-0 when Stroud fired home a pass from Bellisario and Bonaldi.

With defenceman Christopher Rotondo out with a broken collarbone Luigi DeSanto was called up to fill in the gaping hole left in the Hawks' blue line. His tenacious body checks and heads-up play earned him an assist along with Lollino on Keszeg's goal in the 2nd period. Gaebler finished the scoring from Stroud and Bellisario when he rifled a shot from the blue line past the beleaguered Sharpshooter goalie.

This win was a complete team effort as 9 players accounted for points this game. Cage crab Viola earned his 2nd shutout of the season in 3 starts so far this year.
