First Eddy Niedziela Memorial tournament held

Family, friends and coworkers of Constable Eddy Niedziela from Peel Regional Police 11th division, joined together at Glen Eagle Golf Club Sept. 29 for the first annual Eddy Niedziela Memorial Golf Tournament.

Three years ago Eddy lost his brief battle with cancer but he left a legacy of living life to the fullest. The event was organized by Eddy's brother-in-law Nelson Lopes and friend Martin Scarafile. It was a tremendous success due to a great amount of support received from friends and family. More than 88 golfers participated and more than than $4,000 was raised which will benefit Camp Oochigeas and the COPING Centre.

Camp Oochigeas can change a child's life, for the better, and forever. It is much more than a summer camp. Camp Oochigeas offers year-round fun and meaningful experiences to approximately 445 children affected by cancer each year at no cost to their families.

The COPING Centre provides a sanctuary for those who are in need of care and provides a tranquil place for small groups to meet. Educational seminars and other related activities for the grieving and for the care-givers involved in bereavement support are convened at the COPING Centre.
