Caledon's 'complete community' will create 10,000 jobs A proposed new residential and employment development in South Albion- Bolton will create more than 10,000 permanent, full-time jobs and more than $100 million dollars in direct revenue for the Town of Caledon. The development called Humber Station Villages is being proposed by Solmar Development Corporation. "This is a tremendous opportunity for the Town of Caledon," said Solmar vicepresident Frank Miele. "It's about quality of life and giving people the opportunity to work, shop, and go to school all within walking distance from home. This is a chance for Caledon to become a model for the entire GTA by approving such a well planned live-work community." The proposed community includes 740 hectares of mixed housing north of Mayfield Road, bounded by Gore Road, Coleraine Drive, and Healey Road. It includes parks, a public square, community centres, elementary and high schools, and up to 6,500 housing units for 21,000 residents. It also includes a restoration plan for the existing valley lands. Phase one of the community proposal can be readily serviced utilizing the existing infrastructure with no improvements. An important part of the proposal is 250 hectares of employment land for retail, restaurants, and offices, creating more than 10,000 fulltime jobs. The proposed development uses leading technology to conserve energy. "This is the kind of community our town needs to thrive," added Miele. "We're creating long-term employment opportunities, attracting businesses and residents to support those businesses. This is a great example of a sustainable community." The proposed development of Humber Station Villages follows Ontario's Places to Grow plan. It's a sustainable community with a mix of housing, services and parks where people will not be reliant on their cars. Humber Station Villages will help Caledon and the Region of Peel meet its population objectives under Ontario's growth plan. Caledon council is now considering the development application for this complete community. For further information contact Frank Miele at 905- 850-3161, ext 228 or visit www.solmar.ca. |
