Palgrave United Church hosts 'Alternative Gift Fair' November 3 the environment committee at Palgrave United Church is hosting an Alternative Gift Fair. Encouraging less consumerism at Christmas, and simplifying the holidays go hand in hand. This event will educate and advocate others about giving gifts that keep on giving (alternative gifts) - donations on behalf of grandma, teacher, bus driver, etc. to causes local (Caledon Community Services, Friends of Caledon Library), national (Christian Blind Mission, United Church Mission and Service) and international (Sleeping Children Around the World, OXFAM, 10,000 Villages Fair Trade). This is not a fund-raiser but an awareness-raiser. All money raised will go to these above-mentioned nonprofit organizations. There will also be the chance to purchase crafts from international artisans (10,000 Villages Fair Trade Festival - held the past few years at Caledon East United Church). Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. If you would like to help that day, please let organizers know as soon as possible. Also, if you have "regifts" that you would like to donate to a penny draw, please let them know as well. If you have an item that would be better used at the church's annual silent auction and that encourage spending time/talent (babysitting, gardening, house cleaning, meal preparation, hosting dinner), the UCW will host its Christmas Bazaar and Candy Cane Lane Nov. 17, 10 to 4. Please contact the church too. Art, jewellery, antiques, collectibles, clothing, music, gift certificates, etc. all seem to get the most bids. |
