Neighbours petition against sports track
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

Noise from a dirt bike and ATV sports track on Coates Hill Court has prompted neighbours from Matson Drive and Mount Pleasant Road to petition Caledon council to have the activity stopped.

"We are entitled to enjoy a typically normal, peaceful quality of life and surrounding, especially in such a beautiful estate area," the petition read. "It is unacceptable that this be disturbed by such a nuisance and annoyance whose place in residential surroundings is totally inappropriate."

The petitioners gave council a 12-minute video to view of the track being used.

Councillor Richard Whitehead said there are two issues: the use of motorized recreational vehicles and the creation of a race track.

He noted this particular activity is in a registered plan of subdivision.

"We shouldn't allow these tracks," he said.

He suggested reviewing the noise and nuisance bylaws.

He added they don't allow motorized vehicles on Town-owned land.

"I think we're getting carried away on this," said Councillor Gord McClure.

He believes they're sticking their noses where it doesn't belong.

Councillor Richard Paterak noted they do have a bylaw that prohibits racing. While he agreed the property owners have rights, so do the neighbours.

Council referred the matter to staff for recommendations.
