Caledon peewee AE Hawks win 2 of of 3 Thursday, Oct. 18 the Caledon peewee Hawks lost one after going 5 games undefeated. At Centre 2000, Erin-Hillsburg won 6-3. After a couple of early goals against them, the boys couldn't pull it together for a win, but did come back with two goals by Corey French and a third by Mitchell Bulloch. Matthew Power and Matthew Mijackovic each got assists. Good teams bounce back right away, and the boys were back in form for Friday's home game Oct. 19 against Ancaster. The Hawks outshot them 25-8. Matthew Power led things off with a goal assisted by Cadham and French. Cadham came up with a second goal off Andrew Zunic and Corey French. French then scored the third goal assisted by defenceman Justin Core. Connor Gordon completed the scoring with the fourth goal assisted by Tyler Schuster, leaving the game at 4-1 for the Hawks. Matthew Power was taken to hospital at the end of the game and treated for a broken arm. The Hawks played hard against the top-ranked Flamborough Sabres. The Sabres scored near the end of the first period. The game turned quickly in the second period when French carried the puck skillfully from centre ice and scored the first goal. Matthew Bartling kept up the pressure with a second rush and another strong breakaway shortly after and Chris Ferguson stepped up to cover as forward for the injured Power. French scored his 2nd goal of the game off assists by Cadham and Gordon. The intensity of the game picked up with some questionable hits by the Sabres. The agitated crowd was voicing its displeasure, but the Hawks kept it clean. French got a third goal in the third period for a beautiful hat trick assisted by Bulloch and Gordon with defensive support by Deacon Strachan and Core. Brandon Frail was in great form, holding off Flamborough's efforts to get back on the scoreboard. The Hawks won 3-1. "I'm very proud of the team," said head coach Ian Gordon, "They're showing a lot of grit in the early stages of the league. The hard work is paying off." |
