Retired man from Bolton wins $5 million in Super 7

A retired Bolton man was quite surprised when he scanned his Lotto Super 7 ticket at the store and discovered his $5-million jackpot win from the Oct. 5, 2007, draw.

"I've been playing lotteries regularly since my retirement in 1993," Tom Barber told OLG Prize Centre staff in Toronto when he claimed his prize. "I expected to win but did not expect to win $5 million! It feels pretty good."

Barber, 72, retired from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority as director of programs services. He and his wife, Cap, have two sons, two daughters and 11 grandchildren.

With his windfall, Barber plans to do home improvements, buy a four-door truck, travel, restore some old vehicles he owns, share some with family and invest.

The winning Lotto Super 7 ticket was bought at Hasty Market on Queensgate Boulevard in Bolton.
