Five charged under 'stunt' driving rules

Caledon OPP officers responded to 14 property damage and three personal injury collisions during the week ending Oct. 9.

Charges under new

Stunt Driving Section

Section 172 and Regulation 455/07 of the Highway Traffic Act have been amended to impose stiffer penalties for those who engage in street racing, driving contests and driving stunts. The definition of a "stunt" includes driving at 50 kilometres per hour or more above the posted speed limit.

Five motorists were charged and served with the seven-day driving suspension and the vehicles impounded for seven days.

A 22-year-old Brampton man was charged Oct. 3 on Highway 10. A 21-year-old Caledon man was charged Oct. 3 on Highway 9 near Airport Road. An Owen Sound man, 48, was charged Oct. 4 on Highway 9 near Duffy's Lane. Oct. 4, a 31- year-old Orangeville man was charged on Horseshoe Hill Road and The Grange Sideroad. A 23-year-old Pickering woman was charged Oct. 6 on Regional Road 50 and King Street.

Alcohol & Driving

Wednesday, Oct. 3, a traffic complaint on Highway 9 led to a vehicle stop near Regional Road 50 in Caledon. The driver, 61- year-old Johann Buob of Georgetown, was charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. of Blood. He will appear in court Nov. 8.

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 28- year-old Randeep Gill of Caledon was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. of Blood following a traffic stop on Mayfield Road and Highway 410. He was given a court date of Nov. 8.

Thursday, Oct. 4, 25- year-old Alan Coulter of Brampton was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. of Blood and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor. His vehicle was stopped at a RIDE spot check at Airport Road and Leamster Trail in Caledon East. Coulter will appear in court Nov. 8.

Saturday, Oct. 6, a RIDE spot check on Old School Road near Kennedy Road resulted in the arrest of a driver. Balwinder Singh Bannipal, 49, of Brampton, was charged with Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Provide Breath Sample and Drive Motor Vehicle-No Licence. He will appear in court Nov. 8.

Sunday, Oct. 7, a driving complaint on King Street near Queen Street in Bolton led to criminal charges for the driver. Sarina Valentini, 22, of Woodbridge, was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle-Over 80 mgs. Of Alcohol in 100 mls. of Blood and Dangerous Operation. She will appear in court Nov. 8.

Assault Friday, Oct. 5, a dispute between a resident of Caledon East and another resident walking her dog, led to an assault by the male resident upon the female dog walker. Ian Armstrong, 45, of Caledon, was charged with Assault and will appear in court Nov. 8.

Break & Enter

Monday, Oct. 1, during the night hours over the weekend, three portables of a school on Landsbridge Street in Bolton were damaged. Several door handles of the portables had been kicked off to gain entry. A fire extinguisher had been discharged in one of the portables and graffiti damage was caused to the other two.

Friday, Oct. 5, a 14-yearold male from Caledon is facing charges of break and enter, and assault after he entered a home on Castelli Court. The youth entered the home through the garage at about 9 a.m. where a resident of the home confronted him. The resident attempted to restrain the intruder but was pushed away as the male youth escaped on foot. The youth was arrested at his home a short time later. He will appear in court Nov. 19.

Saturday, Oct. 6, a business on Highway 10 in Caledon was entered during the night hours. Large rocks and concrete bits were thrown through windows gaining entry to the building. Cash was reported stolen.

Drugs

Tuesday, Oct. 2, a traffic complaint on Regional Road 50 resulted in a vehicle stop near Queensgate Boulevard in Bolton. The driver was subsequently charged with drug related offences. Jose Rebelo, 47, of Caledon, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance- Marijuana and Possession for the Purpose-Marijuana. He will appear in court Oct. 29.

Thursday, Oct. 4, a RIDE spot check on Airport Road near Leamster Trail resulted in charges for both the driver and passenger of the vehicle. Dustin Rea, 20, and Jamie Jessop, 19, both of Brampton, were charged with Possession of Controlled Substance- Marihuana. Court date for both men was set for Nov. 5.

Thursday, Oct, 4, both driver and passenger in a vehicle stopped on Leamster Trail near Airport Road for a RIDE spot check were charged. Douglas Cowan and Curt Sweetapple, both 20 years old and from Caledon, will attend court Nov. 12 charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana.
