Regional Road 50 dangers

People make errors in judgement and learn their lesson; others continue to make errors in judgement but learn nothing from it until something unfortunate happens.

I ask everyone who drives this dangerous stretch of road to join me in lobbying the Region to put tighter surveillance on this highway and stop the madness before more lives are lost.

The following letter was sent to Peel chair Emil Kolb, following the recent tragedy that claimed the lives of two women on Regional Road 50.

As a resident of Bolton who travels Highway 50 almost daily, I am asking you to increase the number of police on Regional Road 50. Every time I am on that highway I see drivers exhibiting unsafe driving practices that are frightening, and this demonstrates a total lack of judgement. People put others in danger for nothing other than to get to their destination five minutes sooner. This has got to stop!

I was rear-ended by a truck July 31 at the intersection of 50 and Queen Street because I chose not to run an amber light. I was lucky but I could have been, like the two unfortunate women, taken from my family because of sheer disregard for human life. I was knocked into that intersection but was fortunate enough not to be hit by anyone else.

Speeding and unsafe driving is the norm on that highway but no one does anything about it.

Please, make this a priority. Help to make this highway safer. You have the power; exercise it today for all of our sakes.
