112 people ride on the roof for charity

The roof of Riverdale Fitness Mill was a busy place for the recent spin fund-raiser.
Riverdale Fitness Mill held its first-ever Dawn to Dusk Roof Top Spin for charity and by all accounts it was a resounding success.

All the elements came together for a fantastic day. A great group of volunteers, excellent fall weather and community business support from the Belfountain Inn, Coffee Shed, Glen Echo Nurseries, Inglewood General Store, Erin Radio 101.3 and Body Perks to name a few.

The concept was simple - arrange 12 bikes plus an instructor on the roof of the RiverDale Fitness Mill beginning at 8 a.m. and have the bikes filled with riders until dusk. Each rider got as many pledges as possible. The charities - Hospice Caledon, Caledon Community Services and the Caledon Cross Training Club - received the proceeds.

"The weather was absolutely perfect, blue skies, a cool breeze and an incredible view of the Credit River and Escarpment. The energy was beyond belief, it was a great community event with numerous firsttime spinners riding," stated Nikola Boadway, manager of RiverDale Fitness Mill.

Participants and their families were treated to Smoothies and a delicious salad donated by the Belfountain Inn. Doug Befford, area councillor Ward 1 was fantastic, ensuring all were well served while assisting in the serving of these great snacks. Even Regional Councillor Richard Paterak got into the spirit and rode, jeans and all in the morning.

It was surprising how many people really did not know what a hospice is all about.

"The event brought great awareness to Hospice Caledon," stated Andre Leitert, president of National Fitness Products of Canada and RiverDale Fitness Mill. "I am so pleased that RiverDale members and our great staff were able to help the community. I suspect this will be an annual event. If it had of rain, riders would have ridden under a tent."
