Girls hockey launches in Caledon

The initial outings of the girls' hockey in Caledon were well attended.

Atom, peewee, bantam and midget players hit the ice for the first time Sept. 30 at the new Caledon East Arena.

The new league runs for 25 weeks, one hour each Sunday, through March 30, 2008. The cost is $200 per player, payable to Caledon Girls Hockey Association and those interested can pay at the arena.

According to organizer Bob Symons, they had roughly 50 girls so far and more are coming out each week. "Hopefully this will continue until we are full for this year," he said.

Coaches will stress skills development, have a good time (fun) and play games.

Based on the coach, they will try to enter the teams into games (tournaments or exhibitions) with other towns.

Symons said they would like to have two teams each this year and four teams each next year so that they can run a full house league.
