RBC Insurance donates $100,000 to Peel foundation RBC Insurance hosted its annual RBC Insurance Charity Golf Classic Tournament May 28 at Rattlesnake Point Golf Club in Milton, in support of the Peel Children's Aid Foundation (PCAF). More than 260 golfers attended the event, which raised funds to help establish a new medical clinic specifically for children under the supervision of Peel Children's Aid. PCAF raises funds to help at-risk children and youth who have been victims of childhood abuse or neglect. The clinic will employ specially trained clinical staff to assess, treat and refer children and youth. "RBC Insurance is honoured to support such a worthwhile and important cause," said Neil Skelding, president and CEO of RBC Insurance. "On behalf of RBC Insurance, I wish to extend sincere thanks to the many sponsors and supporters for their kind donations towards this vital program." A key highlight of the event, now in its 17th year, was a morning golf clinic for several youths from PCAF. Under the instruction of golf professionals, including David Hearn, Dawn Coe-Jones and Rob MacMillan, the youths enjoyed learning basic swing techniques and the fundamentals of the game. The fun-filled day on the links concluded with an emotional and inspiring address by Sam Fragoso, a youth under the care of PCAF for more than 10 years and speaker at foster recruitment sessions and youth forums. "This event not only offers financial support to our organization, but demonstrated to our 'youths in care' that our community really does want to help them succeed in life," said Catherine Hinton, executive director, Peel Children's Aid Foundation. Other athletes taking part in the tournament were members of the 2006 gold medal winning Canadian women's ice hockey team - Jennifer Botterill, Cheryl Pounder, Jayna Hefford, and Kelly Bechard. |
