Caledon Hawks minor peewee AAs kick off season The Hawks 11-year-old AAs kicked off the year with a pre-season tournament in Richmond Hill Sept. 7 and 8. Game one on Friday was against the Mississauga Hornets, and started off fairly evenly, but the pace picked up in the 2nd with a goal for the Hawks by Nathan Doig, off the stick of Cameron Frail. Netminder Nicholas Ribeiro was yawning a little, as most of the play was in the offensive zone, with another Hawk goal by Joseph Lapiccirella from Chris DeFazio. The pace picked up towards the end of the 3rd, when one "quick on the stick" Hornet managed to put one past Ribeiro, making the final score 2-1. Game two was against the Vaughan Young Bruins, and proved to be a bit more challenging. Goalie Evan Fenn managed to keep the Bruins pretty much at bay for most of the game, letting in only three. Action was non-stop as Jacob Skrinar found the mesh in the 1st, off a nice pass from Adam Donnelly. Skrinar appeared to be on fire in the 2nd period, putting in a beautiful tally off a set-up by Donnelly & Frail. Donnelly took a brilliant shot and popped one in the Young Bruins net early in the 3rd, from DeFazio. Final score 3-3. The Hawks needed a win or a tie in game three to proceed to the finals on Sunday, which they couldn't seem to manage this time. The Markham Waxers came out for a fight, and our boys gave them one, with Michael Bozzelli putting one in the net off a pass from DeFazio & Christian Burel. The Hawks held back the Waxers pretty well until late in the 3rd, where they got shell shocked from 3 goals in a row against. Final score 5-1. Way to go Hawks for putting up a great fight!
