The Caledon fire department and Caledon council welcomed 25 new volunteer firefighters to last Tuesday's council meeting.
Fire Chief Brad Bigrigg told council they bring various life skills and common sense to the job.
"We rely on these people's skills on a daily basis," he said.
The fire chief noted the job has changed in the last 15 years and in the last five years, and will continue to change. He added these people are well educated and receive the best training.
"Our emphasis is on firefighters' safety," he said.
They push to see the job is done right. The firefighters have completed 200 hours of training.
"They continue to meet the needs of the community," Bigrigg said.
The fire chief also recognized the husband and wives of firefighters as well as the significant others who support this operation.
Mayor Marolyn Morrison welcomed all of the firefighters in attendance. "We really value your service," she said. "We don't know what we would do without you."
