Amendments passed to fill bylaw
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

To combat illegal fill hauling and fill dumping in the Town, Caledon council implemented two amendments to the fill bylaw last Tuesday.

Mark Sraga, director of building and bylaw enforcement, told council the bylaw will assist Caledon OPP with enforcement.

He explained when the Town issues a fill permit, the haulage route will be on the permit. One of the greatest challenges for the OPP traffic enforcement unit in the past was determining if a truck hauling fill on a Town road was entitled to be on that road.

The specific amendments to Section 10 of the fill bylaw would require all trucks hauling fill to have a copy of the fill permit kept in the truck and available for inspection upon request by either the OPP or a bylaw officer and the specific route to be used by the fill haulers to be stipulated on the fill permit.

Councillor Doug Beffort asked about having a tag visible from outside the truck.

Sraga replied it would be easier to indicate the hauler has a permit, but the OPP would still need to check the haulage route.
