Appalled by events

As someone who has been employed in the trucking industry for almost 40 years, I am appalled by two recent news stories.

Weeks ago, a man was charged with two counts of criminal negligence due to a terrible accident at Mayfield and Airport Roads that resulted in the death of two young women. His bail conditions allow him to continue driving a dump tractor for work purposes, yet for some inexplicable reason he must have someone drive him to work!

Blowing your horn seems to be an acceptable way for truck drivers to indicate that they are going through a traffic light as it changes to red. This is ridiculous!

Also, in last week's Toronto Sun they exposed the truck driver education schools where students are able to graduate without ever sitting in a tractor trailer! Surely this is crazy and needs to be addressed by the Ontario government immediately.
