Caledon Library celebrates Love Your Library Month October has become a very special time of year at the Caledon Library. For the 9th consecutive year, October is being declared Love Your Library Month. This year the theme of our month long celebration will be "Community … we're in it together." Spaces are being designated in each branch for public information and display space. Whether you are looking for information about your community or you want to spread the word about your group or event the library can help. The highlights of the month include open houses at all seven branches featuring everything from family spooky story times to author visits to a "Stop, Drop and Roll" story time by one Town of Caledon's very own firemen. Exclusively for teens, they will be hosting the inaugural meeting of Caledon Public Library's own teen advisory council Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in Bolton. Also for teens in October is the annual Elizabeth Scavetta Memorial Short Story contest for ages 12-18. For adults, this October the library welcomes the addition of two new adult book clubs; one at the Belfountain branch that will meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. and an afternoon book club at the Albion Bolton branch that will meet on the fourth Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. Also mark your calendars for the Friends of the Caledon Library's 13th annual Scrabble with the Stars fund-raising event at the Caledon East branch Monday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Whether you're an avid Scrabble player or just a beginner the evening offers lots of fun, food, laughter and of course prizes. As part of this special month and as a way to say thanks to Caledon for supporting the library, October 1-6 has been declared finefree. For the donation of one or more non-perishable food items our patrons will have their fines forgiven. All food collected will be donated to the Caledon Community Services fall food drive. Don't miss this opportunity to clear your fines and help your community. A calendar with details of all the events taking place in October is available at the library. So please drop in and discover, or perhaps rediscover, your local library branch. It's a wonderful community space with a multitude of services and resources to offer. Strong libraries build strong communities. Drop in for a visit or check them out on line at www.caledon.library.on.ca. |
