Lightning peewees open with a 5-0 win

"A superb result for the team's very first game played together," said coach Mike Sheridan. "They have had only a handful of practices. I am pleased with their effort and enthusiasm, and especially how well they have integrated several new players to the select league."

The first period saw 2 goals by Kristian Balinov, assisted by Alex Brugger and Christian Brugger. In the second period, 1 goal by Hayden Gorman assisted by Luke McAree and Dylan Yandeau. In the final period, two more goals both by Tyler Tiessen, the first assisted by Alex Brugger and Kristian Balinov and the second, unassisted.

Caledon Lightning goalies were both in top form - Paul Moratti and Ryan Woodworth had a combined shutout. Excellent play by the whole team for a first game of the season. This fast-flowing game saw several players from both sides entering the penalty box, and appeared a well matched game, with the whole ice in use.

This year Caledon Lightning peewee select team all wear a special number 12, on their jerseys. This is to honour the tragic loss of Caledon's Shawn MacDonald and his mom who died during the summer. A friend to coach Mike and several players.

Saturday's game took place in the new Caledon East arena. A great asset to the area, bringing some of the games a little closer to home for the players. The parents are looking forward to the seating being completed to help with viewing.

Caledon Lighting peewee team is holding a fund-raising golf tournament and family day in Shelburne Sunday, Sept. 30. Sponsorships still available. Please contact them at admin@whatson.on.ca.
