Barn fire causes $50,000 in damage

Sunday, Sept. 23 at approximately 2:41 pm., Caledon Fire & Emergency Services responded to a report of a structure fire received from a 911 call. Fire crews were upgraded en route to the call on Mississauga Road that this emergency incident was a barn fire.

Upon arrival, fire crews found the barn to be fully involved with fire. Crews commenced a defensive fire attack from the exterior using hand lines due to the advanced fire conditions. The structure collapsed shortly after the fire crew's arrival. Embers from the fire caused the grass in nearby fields to ignite which were also extinguished by fire crews.

Additional water supply and firefighters were requested through Mutual Aid from the Town of Erin Fire & Emergency Services.

The barn was used for storage of personal goods. There was also some old hay in the hayloft. Damage was contained to the barn and surrounding brush. There were no injuries.

The cause is under investigation and damage is estimated at $50,000. Agencies responding included Inglewood, Alton, Caledon Village, Caledon East and Erin fire stations, Caledon OPP, Peel EMS.
