Several local runners came home with medals from the annual Longboat event at Centre Island.
A group of Caledon athletes traveled down to Centre Island Sept. 9 to compete in the annual Longboat Center Island 5-kilometre Run.

The team did exceptionally well, capturing three gold medals and two silvers.

The hottest group of runners on the day participated in the female 15 & under category. Four girls placed in the top seven, including a silver medal for Nicole Skimming and 5th, 6th & 7th place finishes for Jamie Skimming, Jennie Wilson and Tristan Boyington respectively. Jennah Rampersaud put in a strong effort with a 15th place finish in the category.

In a tough male 15 & under category, Zane Rampersaud nailed down a 6th place finish followed by Miles Boyington in 9th, Alex Trkulja in 20th & Adam Rampersaud in 22nd place.

The adults were also impressive with gold medal performances from Janice Trkulja, Alison Wilson and Scott Skimming in their respective categories. Jason Rampersaud secured a silver medal and Ryan Boyington had an 8th place showing.

Romeena Rampersaud & Tina Boyington finished 15th and 19th among the females in the 5K competitive walk.

The team, made up of Caledon Cougar basketball players and their parents, participated in a 5-kilometre training program throughout the summer to prepare for the race.
