Opening celebration for arena

Mark your calendar and dust off your ice skates. Sunday, Sept. 16 is the grand opening celebration for the new arena at the Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East.

The grand opening event will feature free ice skating from 3 to 6 p.m., complete with a MuchMusic video show to skate to. Complimentary refreshments and air brush face painting will be available to everyone in attendance.

"This new arena is the first one built by the municipality since the Town of Caledon was incorporated in 1974," commented Mayor Marolyn Morrison. "I am really looking forward to seeing the entire community of Caledon in Caledon East on September 16 to celebrate this milestone event."

With an NHL-size ice surface, six large dressing rooms, a skate sharpening kiosk and snack bar, the new facility will accommodate figure skaters, hockey players and seating for more than 240 fans of all ages. Built by McDonald Bros. Construction and designed by Parkin Architects, lighting in the arena is energy efficient and includes large north-facing windows.

The Caledon Community Complex is located at 6215 Old Church Road in Caledon East, just west of Town Hall.
