Ionta nets game-winner for Team Sweden in BWSC action

After falling behind 2-0 to Portugal, Team Sweden made a terrific comeback, in the Bolton Wanderers boys under 6 division Aug. 22. Portugal took an early two-goal lead, but that didn't deter Sweden. A determined effort by Brendan Carlile narrowed the gap to 2-1. Scoring leader Marcus Ionta tied the game 2-2 with a high shot over the Portugal netminder's head. Late in the game, Ionta scored the game-winner, making it 3-2 and giving Sweden its 11th win of the season. The MVP was Alessandro Cerasuolo.

Previously, Sweden edged Team USA 5-4 in a hard-fought game that saw Luca Pellegrino net a couple along with Marcus Ionta. Gianluca Mongillo played a spirited game on both offence and defence garnering well deserved MVP honors. Sweden defeated Italy in a fast-paced nail-biter. Ionta played a picture perfect game leading his team to victory. Brendan Carlile was his usual feisty self and helped apply consistent pressure netting a goal. Sean Greegan put in a special birthday performance leaving it all out on the field and getting MVP honors.
