Blue team wins IBHL championship crown

The semifinals and final game of the Inglewood Ball Hockey League season proved that anyone can become the champion.

Semifinals Aug. 21

Gould Fasteners 2,

Sports Unlimited 0

In a nail-biter, defending champions, Sports Unlimited, were ousted by newcomers Gould Fasteners late in the third frame when Sports took a penalty and Gould was able to sneak one past Evan Maloney. Gould then added an empty-netter to solidify the win. Gould goal-getters were Sean Thompson and Matt Greco, assists were from the sticks of Steve Corrgia and Justin Dixon.

Blue Team 6,

Mr. Handyman 4

Mr. Handyman and their short bench were almost able to pull off the upset of the season over the Blue Team, but Blue was able to complete the undefeated season with strong play in the second and third.

Scoring for Mr. Handyman were Pasquale Chiapetta (3g, 1a), Emile Ferlis (1g, 2a), Pat Cerveira (1a), Sean Cerveira (2a), and Luca Zelikovic (1a).

Blue twine-ticklers were Craig Shaw, Corey Heron, Brad Speirs, Tom Laurenza, John Uren and Todd Elson. Assists were from the sticks of Shaun Heron, Wade Speirs, Owen Speirs, Matt Wilkinson, Elson, Laurenza and Geoff Christie.

Finals Aug. 23

Blue Team 4,

Gould Fasteners 0

In a controversial game that needed to be called with 2 minutes left in the second frame (due to floor conditions), Blue was able to regain their title.

Scoring for Blue were Wade Speirs from Shaun Heron and Ian Wilkinson, Craig Shaw from Wade Speirs and Shaun Heron, Lee Erwin from Matt Speirs and Todd Elson and Shaun Heron from Wade Speirs and Craig Shaw.

The IBHL would like to thank all the players, sponsors, time keepers, referees, the Caledon Citizen, the Caledon Enterprise, George's Arena Sports and the staff at the Lloyd Wilson Arena for all their support and hard work to make this season a successful one.
