Charges laid in selling flood-damaged vehicles Caledon OPP officers responded to 15 property damage and two personal injury collisions during the week of Aug. 13-19. Fraud - Flood Vehicles Importation In May 2007 the Ontario Provincial Police Anti- Rackets Section commenced an investigation into the importation and subsequent improper registration and sale of flood-damaged vehicles in Ontario. As a result of the investigation two persons who were involved in the registration and sale of the vehicles have been charged with various fraud related offences. Approximately 30 flooddamaged vehicles were imported and sold to unsuspecting buyers in the GTA. The Ministry of Transportation has now informed the buyers of the flood damaged vehicles that the vehicles are unsafe and have to be removed from the road. Charged with one count of Fraud over $5,000, one count of Theft over $5,000, one count of Forgery and one count of Uttering a forged document is Salvatore Casano of Bolton. Charged with one count of Forgery and one count of Uttering a forged document is Kelly Casano of Mississauga. Both will appear in Orangeville Provincial Court Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. High Miler of the Week August 18, a vehicle was stopped travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 10 near the Forks of the Credit. Charged was Alexander Haidenschuster of Brampton, 143 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone. Alcohol & Driving A number of 12-hour suspensions were issued, however, no impaired driving charges were laid during this seven-day period. Caledon OPP remains vigilant in their pro-active initiatives to discourage drinking and driving. Break & Enter August 18 at approximately 1:30 am, a break and enter occurred at a business on Highway 10 by entering the basement window. Two unlocked vehicles were also entered and coins taken. August 13, between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 2:35 p.m., persons unknown entered a premise on Castlederg Sideroad. A quantity of jewellery and cash were taken. Mischief Between August 7 and 14, persons unknown entered a property on the Cataract Road smashing three barn windows and porch lights. Theft August 18, between the hours of 1 and 8 a.m., persons unknown removed a tailgate off a Dodge Ram Pickup parked on Emeline Street in Alton. Owners of pickup trucks are encouraged to keep their tailgates and vehicle doors locked when unattended. Between August 13 and 14, a 17-foot Bayliner boat and Capri trailer were stolen from a property on Highway #50 in Bolton. Between August 13 and 14 a 2006 Rockwood Motorhome, white with burgundy trim was stolen from an address on Healey Road in Bolton. On or about Aug. 14, two golf carts were stolen from a business on the Escarpment Sideroad. August 12 between 11 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. an unlocked vehicle was entered on Granite Stones Drive removing a wallet, cell phone and a laptop computer. Sunday, Aug. 12, lumber was reported stolen from the rear of a home under construction on Oak Knolls Drive in Caledon. Criminal Charges Tuesday, Aug. 7, a Caledon officer stopped to speak to a driver parked on Beech Grove Sideroad near Main Street in Alton. When the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the driver started the vehicle and accelerated away. The officer followed with emergency equipment activated. The fleeing vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and drove at excessive speeds. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by another officer on Highway 10, south of Charleston Sideroad. Dewayne Wilcox, 49, of Scarborough, was charged with the criminal offences of Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He will appear in court Sept. 20.
