Peel board encourages parents to register children

The Peel District School Board is encouraging parents of kindergarten children and new Peel families with school-aged children to register for school from Aug. 27 to 31. Schools will be open to the public during this week to prepare for the start of school Sept. 4.

"The board wants to ensure that students are registered and ready to begin school on Sept. 4," said Lynn Hiebert, superintendent of staff development and school support. "Registering children during the week of Aug. 27 will help the board establish bus routes and ease demands on schools during the first week back."

To register a child at school, parents should bring proof of age, proof of address in Peel as well as the child's immunization and education records.

In some cases immigration documents will be requested.

Parents can call Health Line Peel at 905-799-7700 for information about the immunization schedule in Ontario, and to verify that a child's record is up-todate. Information about how to be immunized if a child does not have an Ontario health card and the family cannot afford a doctor's fees for immunization is also available by calling Health Line Peel. An exemption form can be obtained if a child has not been immunized for medical reasons or because of a conflict of religion or conscience.

Parents can call the board's planning and accommodation department at 905-890-1010 or 1-800- 668-1146, ext. 2212, to find out the name and location of the neighbourhood school their child will attend. For more information, parents can visit the board's Web site at www.peelschools.org and look for the "school registration" link in the Spotlight section of the home page. Parents can also call their local school or the board's staff development and school support department at 905-890-1010/1-800-668-1146, ext. 2640.
