Plowing match Thursday at Lothlorien

The Peel-Dufferin Plowing Association is holding its 82nd annual Plowing Match Thursday, Aug. 30 at Lothlorien, the farm of Sue & John Grange (corner of King & Creditview Rd). It promises to be an exciting day (rain or shine).

Plowmen will be coming from all directions that day to decide who among them is the best plowman.

The winners of the classes will move on to plow at the International Plowing Match & Rural Expo 2007 in Leeds/Grenville Counties from Sept. 18-22 in Crosby, Ontario. Visit www.plowingmatch.org for more information.

Some classes include Jointer Plows - Horses, Antique Tractors and Tractors - Mounted Plows, Antique Classes, Business and Professional People and Ladies' Class. The entry fee for all classes is $5.

Registration for the day begins at 8:30 a.m. Plowing begins at 10:15 a.m. You won't want to miss the Mayor's Challenge which begins at 10:30. A luncheon will be held at noon, which is being sponsored by Ed Stewart's Equipment & BBQ Services by BBQ Services sponsored by Enbridge Gas Distribution.

Queen of Furrow Competition is open to all Peel and Dufferin residents between 16 and 25 years of age. The competition takes place at the plowing match Aug. 30. The winner will compete at the 2008 Ontario Queen of the Furrow Competition held at the 2007 International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Show. The current Queen is Jessica Currie.
