Lukovic at U.S. tourney

A Caledon youth was among the members of CJGA Team Canada for the 2007 Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California.

Forty-four of the country's top junior golfers, aged 6-17, travelled to San Diego, to represent the CJGA at the four-day international tournament July 17-20. More than 1,000 participants from across the world gathered to take part in the prestigious event. All juniors competed in at least three rounds of medal play at several of the city's top courses. Those making the cut in the Boys and Girls 15- 17 Division played 72 holes.

Taking part in the boys' 9-10 group was Caledon's Lucas Lukovic, 10.

The Junior World Golf Championships were founded in 1968 and since then, over 73 countries, including Canada, have been represented annually. Among the list of former champions are PGA and LPGA Tour golfers, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Brandie Burton and Amy Alcott.

Qualifying tournaments for CJGA Junior Tour members were held earlier this season at University Golf Club, in Vancouver, B.C., Wolf Run Golf Club in Janetville, Ont., Cougar Creek Golf Resort in Edmonton, Alta., Saskatoon Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, Sask., Eagle Creek in Dunrobin, Ont., Highwood Golf and Country Club in High River, Alta.
