Public skating, hockey at new Caledon East arena
A Canadian winter would not be the same without the sounds of sticks and pucks hitting the ice. There is a certain type of excitement when seeing wee ones taking their first step on ice, as well as, cheering on local hockey teams and figure skaters.
The Caledon community will join in on this energy as we prepare to open the doors to the newest Town of Caledon arena in Caledon East.
We are so eager to show off our newest facility that we are opening the arena early for free public skating and shinny hockey from Aug. 27 to 31. Shinny hockey will take place between 11 a.m. to noon for youth under 12 and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for those 13 years and up. Please note that helmets and gloves are mandatory. Public skating for all ages will take place daily from 3 to 4 p.m., August 27-31.
The official opening will occur Sunday, Sept. 16. A community celebration and official puck drop at centre ice is planned for 3 p.m.
The new, 36,000-squarefoot facility is a part of the Caledon Community Complex located at 6215 Old Church Road. The arena offers natural lighting, seating for 250 spectators and it is fully accessible. In addition to the full-size, NHL ice pad, there are six large change rooms, a referee change room, pro shop and snack bar.
Please join members of council and other dignitaries for the official on- ice celebration followed by a free public skate to a Much Music Video presentation, complimentary refreshments and air brush face painting.
Dust off your skates, sharpen those blades and join us on the 16th for an afternoon of old-fashion Canadian fun on ice!
