Defending champs retain Over-95 mixed doubles title

The defending champions from Bolton Tennis Club rose to the occasion again to win the 2007 Mono Centre Over-95 Mixed Doubles championship recently.

Gisela Nouisser and Alan Liczyk of Bolton won the title for the second straight year and fourth time in the last six years after beating Linda Macdonald of Caledon and Vince Murphy of Brampton in the final 6-2, 7-5.

There were 11 teams in the tournament which required each pair to have a combined age of 95 years or more.

In the Over-95 consolation final, the mother-son team of Carol and Jason Hall from the host Mono Centre club defeated the father-daughter team of Ron and Laura Shepherd of Caledon East in the final 6- 0, 6-3.

A second category was introduced to the tournament for the first time this year which required all the players to be 60 years of age or more. There were five teams entered in this draw.

Lia Smith of Belfountain and Bruce Smith of Mono Centre won the 60+ tournament after beating Betty Scott and Rod Sanders of Mono Centre in the final 6-3, 6-0.

In the consolation final for the 60+ group, the husband-wife team of Adrian and Ruth Grice of Caledon East downed Joan Shepherd and Klaus Tiessen of Caledon East 6-2, 6-1.

The tournaments were organized for the first time by the Mono Tennis Club executive.

David Adsetts handled the duties of tournament director.
