August welcome at the Caledon seniors' centre With CNE, school openings, pool and cottage closings approaching rapidly, activities at the centre are in high gear. Florida may smell sweet and beckon but here we are in your own back yard and no passport required to join us. Our fall schedule is ready to welcome you. August and fall schedules to year end are available. Drop in and pick one up. Yes! a cuppa waits. Our in-house games were a winner's delight. A grand lunch and presentations of certificates and centre wall plaques to all winners. Mayor Marolyn Morrison brought greetings and congratulations from Caledon and presented the first-place winners with their awards. Regional Councillor Annette Groves and centre president Monica Smith congratulated and presented awards to the runners-up. George Formby made a musical comeback appearance courtesy of Mel Collie and his banjo-uke. How well I remember George's Swimmin with the Wimmin. M.C. program chairman Fred Ewart reported it was the best games yet. Thanks and congratulations to all. You are all winners. Our monthly Tuesday delicious steak dinner and entertainment July 24 was a beach party with the Harmony Show Band providing music for the beach. A conga line led by our president Monica Smith, hula hoops and polka dot bikinis made the night for a full house. A special general membership meeting was held Wednesday, July 25, to review and approve recommended changes to the Caledon Seniors' Centre constitution proposed by our board of directors. A delicious pot luck luncheon followed. A thank you to all who provided the necessary quorum and attended this important meeting on the changes which were accepted unanimously. It is said "nothing is certain but change." How well we know. Our centre's success breeds success. We are a Bolton and Caledon original. With your continued support and participation our future is assured. Thank you! August Highlights Aug. 1, Wednesday, 12 noon Lunch. Birthday and Anniversary celebrations. Lunches every Monday and Wednesday. First time visitors be our guests. Bingo & Club Italiano 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, games day. 9:30 a.m. bid euchre and bridge lessons. Noon lunch. 7 p.m. bridge & euchre or your game choice. Thursday, Aug. 9, PROBUS 9:30a.m. Meet & Greet. 10 a.m. speaker will be Mayor Marolyn Morrison speaking on a "Bolton and Caledon update." Guests are invited accompanied by a member. Mayor Marolyn is a prime centre supporter. Join us for a grand Probus Centre welcome. Memberships available anytime. Get yours now! Shuffleboard 7:00p.m. all welcome. *Check upgrading on court coverings. Tuesday, Aug. 21, is our monthly dinner at 5 p.m. and entertainment. A new act, Jimmy & Joe - Broadway bound? Thursday, Aug. 23, The Buddy Holly Story at King's Wharf theatre, Penetanguishene. All inclusive trip, delicious buffet lunch, show and transportation. Coach leaves the centre at 10 a.m., returns at 6 p.m. The cost is $74/person. Aug. 29, noon pot luck lunch. Variety is our spice bring yours! or pay the pot. Future Peek Thursday, Sept. 20, Stage Door Canteen Boat Cruise & Show at the Orillia Opera house. All inclusive trip, cruise, delicious lunch, show and transportation. Luxury 9:30 a.m., returns at 6 p.m. Tickets are $77/person. Waiting list only. Saturday, Oct. 13, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. is our 12th annual Craft, Bake, Garage sale & silent Auction. Breakfast available at 8 a.m. B.B.Q & refreshments all day. Home baking & craft donations welcomed. Children love us! Clowns too. Thursday, Oct, 25, Casino Rama trip. Luxury coach at 5 p.m. Tickets are only $8 per person. Members given priority, trip reservation full payment required. No post dated cheques accepted.
