Caledon residents stepped up to take fitness challenge

Karen Hutchison, and her son Alex of Inglewood, won the Raleigh bike as part of a fitness challenge.
More than 130 people "stepped up" to take a fitness challenge issued by the Town at a recent community festival in June - a month proclaimed by councils province-wide as Recreation & Parks Month.

In the spirit of encouraging an active lifestyle, the Town of Caledon's Recreation & Property Services Department issued a fitness challenge at the Inglewood Day community festival June 16. Participants agreed to wear a pedometer for the day, then register their name and total number of steps back at the booth in midafternoon. Those who registered were eligible to win a 21-speed Raleigh mountain bike.

"On behalf of staff and council, I would like to thank Raleigh Canada for their continued support of Caledon Trailway events," said Mayor Marolyn Morrison.

Raleigh Canada is a member of the Distinguished Kilometre Club, contributing $40,000 to help build one kilometre of trail. Raleigh Canada's donation plaque is located at the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion in Caledon East.

June 16, the Town of Caledon unveiled a commemorative plaque at a dedication ceremony for the Caledon Trailway Bridge that spans Highway 10 south of Caledon Village. The pedestrian bridge closes a significant gap in the Caledon Trailway - a multiuse trail that runs 35 kilometres from Terra Cotta to Palgrave, and is part of the Trans Canada Trail.
