Peel Region wins award for talent management The Region of Peel has received the E.A. Danby Award in recognition of its talent management program. The award was presented by Andy Koopmans, executive director of the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks, and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), at the regional council meeting July 5. "This award recognizes the Region's commitment to attracting, rewarding and keeping the best talent," says Gael Miles, Peel regional councillor and chair of the management section of the general committee. "The talent management program builds on the high standard of innovation and professionalism that makes the Region of Peel a centre of excellence." Peel's talent management program provides a framework to guide core human resource functions including hiring, orientation, staff development, promotion and specific retention strategies aimed at attracting and retaining top talent. "Our talent management program is focused on investing in our workforce and enabling employees to pursue and attain their career goals," said Laura Nashman, commissioner of employee and business services. "Our program has also improved our ability to recognize and develop leadership potential within our organization." The E.A. Danby Award recognizes municipalities that demonstrate outstanding achievement in the area of performance improvement. The award is named after AMCTO's first president who was instrumental in establishing AMCTO and its commitment to the betterment of municipal government through educational and training opportunities. "The Region's talent management program is a testament to the culture of excellence that exists at the Region of Peel and serves as an example of innovation and effective management for other municipalities to follow," said Andy Koopmans, executive director, AMCTO. AMCTO is Ontario's largest voluntary professional association in the municipal field. AMCTO's mission is to foster administrative excellence in local governments and is also a recognized leader in the delivery of training and professional development programs for administrative staff in municipal government. |
