Amendment sees more commercial space added to Bolton Significantly more commercial space will be added to the Bolton community shopping centre commercial area following Caledon council's adoption of Official Plan Amendment 215 recently. Senior policy planner Kathie Kurtz told council the expansion will add to the choice and diversity Bolton residents will have. The review of the existing commercial policy framework in Bolton was completed within the context of the South Albion-Bolton Community Plan. Not only does OPA 215 expand the Bolton community shopping centre commercial area, it also provides policies to strengthen the function of the Bolton core commercial area and the Bolton south hill commercial area. The amendment expresses the Town's intent to further improve commercial services by undertaking a study to identify a site for a supermarket to serve Bolton north hill residents and expand the settlement area boundary for this purpose. Kurtz said there was no opposition to the settlement boundary expansion. She added residential expansion isn't needed until 2021. The redesignation of the Penretail site to Bolton community shopping centre commercial area from prestige industrial was deferred by council until the Ontario Municipal Board issues an order approving the Penretail official plan amendment and rezoning. Penretail's commercial proposal includes a home improvement centre, a supermarket and non-food store retail space at Regional Road 50 and Healey Road. |
