Information meeting for new high school to come
By ALAN LICZYK Staff Reporter

The Town of Caledon and Dufferin-Peel Catholic district school board have agreed to set up a joint information meeting for residents to learn more about the new St. Michael high school to be located on Bolton's north hill.

Bolton resident Stella Todd presented Caledon council with a petition last Tuesday requesting the Town and school board hold a joint public meeting to address any concerns residents may have.

She explained she and other community members know little if anything about the proposed school, making it impossible for them to rationally assess all the implications of the proposal. Her concerns centred mostly around traffic.

She stressed the need for the high school is not in question, but its imminent construction has come up very quickly.

Councillor Annette Groves agreed with her there's no objection to the new school going in especially with Robert F. Hall Catholic secondary school in Caledon East "bursting at the seams."

Dufferin-Caledon Trustee Frank Di Cosola told council he and the school board welcome the petition for a joint information meeting. He would like it to happen as soon as possible. He added a July 11 application to the Caledon Committee of Adjustment has been deferred until after the public meeting. The proposed opening of the new high school is September 2009, he said. Councillor Jason Payne said the reason for choosing the north hill site should be part of the discussion at the information meeting.
