Memorial area requested for hockey volunteer Pyman A request was made to Caledon council recently to honour a long-time Inglewood hockey volunteer who was killed in a traffic accident earlier this year. Inglewood resident Tim Peters asked council if a memorial area could be set up inside Lloyd Wilson Memorial Arena in memory of Rick Pyman who died in March while trying to help a car accident victim on Trafalgar Road. Pyman went to help a woman and her child whose car had flipped over, but he was hit by an on-coming car and killed instantly, Peters explained. He called Pyman a great coach, sponsor, mentor, father and volunteer. The memorial area he requested for Pyman would be low profile, the way he was, Peters said. He added the Inglewood Minor Hockey League has started a foundation in Pyman's name to help Caledon kids who cannot afford hockey equipment. Peters is the chair of the Rick Pyman golf tournament this year at Clublink with the proceeds going to his charity. Pyman's community involvement included sponsoring two IMHL teams for more than 10 years, coaching two teams for those 10-plus years, serving as president of the IMHL since 2006, volunteering for the IMHL and helping players financially who couldn't afford the fee to join. Council forwarded the memorial request to recreation and property services staff for comment and a recommendation in a report to council. |
