Bolton girls stand tough in hometown tourney

Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club successfully hosted this year's tournament round of the girls under 14 Ontario Cup Competition.

The two-day round-robin affair saw the Wanderers welcome Brams United Dragons, London United Avalanche, Mt. Hamilton Avalanche, and Unionville Milliken Strikers to Edelweiss Park in what proved to be a weekend filled with positives.

Kudos to tournament cochairs William Hay and Nick Indelicato and their tiny team of volunteers for an outstanding organizational effort. Visiting clubs were most impressed with the cleanliness of the park, its well groomed fields, tournament organization and more importantly, the level of play and sportswomanship displayed.

Participating in only their second Ontario Cup Tourney, the hometown Wanderers held their own with some of the very top teams in the province.

Top 10 ranked Ontario Youth Soccer League Club, Unionville, was on its heels early in Bolton's first game, but equalized moments before the half. Unionville went on to a 3-1 victory. The Wanderers knotted their second match at 2 coming from behind with elite club, Mt. Hamilton.

Day two found the Under 14 girls taking on another elite team in what was described by coach Dave Vanstone as the "most outstanding effort so far this season."

Bolton buried the visitors from London 3-0! The Wanderers also controlled their match with Brams United creating plenty of opportunities, however, only one shot had true quality - the result: a 1-1 draw. Congratulations go out to the entire team on a superb effort which found Bolton finishing second among the group of five and earning both the respect and highpraises of visiting clubs and onlookers.

Special thanks go to the Wanderer's Girl's Under 14 rep sponsors - Bill Parnaby at Royal LePage, Kingsview Real Estate, and TriStar Landscaping. And, a very special thanks to key sponsors, AA's Fish & Chips, FLYBMI.COM and Waste Management for their support of the team.
