BAR contract The widening and reconstruction of Coleraine Drive from Mayfield Road to south of Healey Road is expected to begin in early August after Caledon council awarded the contract for the work last Tuesday to Fermar Paving Ltd. for its total bid of $5.6 million, excluding GST. Coleraine Drive's reconstruction is a component of the Bolton arterial roads. This first stage covers a distance of 2.4 kilometres from Mayfield Road to about 0.7 kilometres south of Healey Road. The second stage will cover the balance of the road works up to King Street West with construction expected to start in spring 2008. Fermar Paving was selected over five other companies whose bids ranged from $6.2 million to $6.7 million. Fermar Paving has successfully completed similar projects for the Town in the past, most recently the reconstruction of Caledon-King Town Line South in 2004. Construction on Coleraine Drive will be substantially completed before winter arrives. Traffic delays are expected due to reduced speeds and lane widths, truck-turning movements, truck loading and the presence of heavy equipment. Council also retained McCormick Rankin to provide engineering services, contract administration and inspection for the construction phase of the project at an estimated engineering fee of $460,000 and $585,000 for stage 1 & 2 respectively. |
