Holy Family School wins award

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Chapter 608 North Peel Dufferin is an organization that provides professional development for educators. Keynote speakers and seminars are offered at the local chapter. Provincial and international conferences are held annually.

Chapter 608 provides an elementary school award for program materials or equipment for exceptional student programs. Currently they are also accepting nominations at the secondary level for the most improved exceptional student, 16 years and older, who plans to continue in school or training. It is in memory of Deanna Smitheram, an outstanding teacher who taught at Mayfield secondary. Both competitions are open to schools in three boards - Peel, Dufferin-Peel and Upper Grand.

This year, Holy Family School in Bolton received a certificate and a cheque for $100 to buy equipment for the life skills group for grades 1-4. Their team of educational resource workers spearheaded by Rose Bukumarovic (Mrs. B.) submitted the required forms.

Joan Sytsma from CEC Chapter 608 presented the award to Mrs. McEwen, the ERW team, Mrs. Godfrey (principal) and Mr. Araman (vice-principal). Their delight sparked an enthusiastic response to winning the award.
