Caledon celebrates Canada's birthday in style
For the 19th year, the Caledon Agricultural Society will be hosting the annual fun-filled Strawberry Festival July 1 on the Caledon Fairgrounds on Highway 10 in Caledon Village. This year the theme in the hall is Canadian Heritage and some members will be profiling their heritage and relatives. Also in the hall will be the endless collection of strawberry articles collected over the years, and a display about the fair ambassadors. Back by popular request is the K-9 Dog show, the Peace Ranch Petting zoo, the kiddie rides, the strawberry eating contest and Jimbo the Clown. There will be continuous live entertainment including Jack Look, the Sunshine Singers and step dancers. Organizers will hold the Hole-in-one golf competition with the top prize being a John Deere tractor! There will also be pony rides, free balloons and birthday cake at noon.
Do not forget the classic, antique and custom car show that is always a favourite. Organizers expect many cars to come as it is a free car show with lots of awards and prizes and goodie bags, as well as a 50/50 draw. The car show runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The pancakes begin at 8 a.m. and continue all day long. The hall opens at 10 a.m. Also at Caledon Village Place is a silent auction with more than 100 donated items to bid on. The money acquired helps pay for this free festival. The opening ceremonies will be held at noon on the bandstand with local dignitaries and the Town Crier. Organizers hope you can find time Sunday, July 1 to come and bring the family for some old time free fun on the Caledon Fairgrounds as the Strawberry Festival tradition continues. Celebration, fireworks at Albion Hills Join Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) and the Town of Caledon for the 11th annual Celebration of Caledon Canada Day, a 100% Canadian event that has warmed the hearts of tens of thousands of families over the years. The festival opens to the public July 1 from 4 to 11 p.m. at Albion Hills Conservation Area. It culminates in the anticipated fireworks spectacle, taking place at dusk over Lake Albion. It is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and celebrate the heritage of Canada. Some of this year's activities will include live entertainment, magic shows, Pawzie Traction Flyball & Performance team, picnicking, swimming, hay rides, traditional Canadian music and more! Fund-raising for the 11th annual Caledon Canada Day celebrations is already under way once again. This important community event is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and community members. James Dick Construction, an enthusiastic supporter of the Caledon Canada Day Celebrations, has sponsored both the fireworks and promotional materials since the birth of the event in 1997. McDonald's has also been a solid supporter of this annual event. To contribute to this spectacular event, please call Don Smith at 905-951-3280.
