Family fun, luscious fruits highlight Canada Day at Downey's

Join in the family fun at Downey's Farm Market & Winery Sunday, July 1. At 9 a.m. enjoy a strawberry pancake breakfast. Live entertainment begins at 10 a.m. with country folk singer Wayne King. Downey's Caledon Strawberry Festival will be officially opened at 11 a.m. and you are invited to celebrate Canada Day with a piece of birthday cake.

Ms Jennings, a children's performer, will entertain the children from noon to 12:45. Wayne King will perform at 11:30 to noon; 12:45 to 2 and 2:45 to 4. A magic show will be held from 2-2:45.

Small folk can feed and visit their favourite farm animals at Downey's Kritter Korral. Watching the antics at Ontario's largest goat walk, Downey's Goat Walk will bring out the kid in your regardless of age. The ponies will be saddled up and ready for rides around the ring. Take a wagon ride to the u-pick strawberry fields or buy strawberries already picked.

After you have stocked up on the essentials for your home-made jam session at the Barn Market, appease your appetite with hotdogs off the grill. Enjoy fries from Poppa John's French Fry Truck. Try a heaping of strawberry shortcake or strawberry ice cream at Downey's Ice Cream Saloon. In addition, breads, pies, muffins and donuts are all baked in view in the barn market. Sample awardwinning strawberry and framboise wines in Downey's Estate Winery.

Downey's Farm Market is located at 13682 Heart Lake Road, south of King Road. Admission and parking are free.
