Local C3 club hosts Ontario's biggest triathlon June 30

Want to win a free trip to Chicago for the weekend with two of your friends? All you have to do is make up a team for the upcoming Fitness 101 National Sprint Triathlon and Relay weekend June 30. Caledon's local C3 club has become world renown for its hosting of sporting events, and just weeks after hosting Canada's biggest KOS kids' triathlon, their crew will be back hosting the provinces biggest relay (one swimmer, one bike and one runner) and sprint tri) events.

Located at Professor's Lake, race organizers will be drawing free trips to Chicago for a 3-day fullexpense trip where you can also participate in the biggest triathlon in the world Aug. 24-26.

"Our goal with the relay triathlon is to get novice people involved in the sport and see how easy and fun it is," said Caledon's former Olympic coach Barrie Shepley.

Each of the three legs of the Triathlon Relay will take 15-30 minutes and can be done at the person's own pace. Each participant gets a meal, souvenir race shirt, finisher's medal and a great chance to have some fun and see the best triathletes in the world race in the afternoon.

The Sprint Championships will host nearly 1,000 participants from across the country and North America. Individual age groupers will be fighting for spots to the World Triathlon Championships, and their share of the $10,000 prize purse.

"In the morning we have a 12-13-year-old mini-race, a 14-15-year-old mini-race, the Canadian Junior Triathlon Championships featuring Caledon's worldclass juniors Andrew Yorke, Chad Ruby, Kerrie Ann Delaney, Mark Bechtel and Tyler Bredschneider, and an age group sprint triathlon," said Shepley.

The afternoon will feature top international pros like Caledon's Sean Bechtel (three time national teammember), along with teammates Andrew Woegerer (recently named Canada's junior athlete of the year) along with Canada's Pan American Team members. Athletes from all over North Events start at 8 a.m. America have already booked into the area, and will be staying in Caledon to train before and after the race.

"Caledon has become second home for athletes all over the world," Shepley added. "Because of the incredible hospitality of the C3 families and supporters, athletes come back year after year for our races, and they stay after the event is over to train on the great hills, run on the local trails and swim with us in the local quarries." Saturday, June 30, based from Professor's Lake, and the bike and run will occur in the local area. Spectators are encouraged to come down and enjoy the holiday weekend with music, draw prizes and lots of action. Anyone interested in volunteering for the event should contact the C3 office at info@c3online.ca or call 905-838-2662.
