Bolton Wanderers Rep. Roundup The Wanderers' Havenwood Homes Under 8 Girls Select Team (99s) took to the road recently for a match against Georgetown. In an extremely solid team effort, Bolton came out on top 5-2. Madison Johnston opened the scoring thanks to a nifty through pass from Jessica Dodig who'd find the back of the net with two of her own. Emmah Barber added one more. After subbing in goal for most of the match for an ailing Elizabeth Haarmaan, Liza Knill's "fresh legs" provided a late game spark along with an excellent left foot finish. Jocelyn Coulombe, Elaina Mikulski, and Sara Slater superbly supported what at times was a relentless Bolton attack. The Wanderers also saw fine play from its defensive corps of Alessia Boem, Kennedy Hanczyk (making her debut), Madison Osvaldini, and Julia Ruffolo. Abbey Donnelley was unfortunately unavailable for this game. "This 'friendly' was ideal for us," said coach Wally Mikulski. "It's been a bit of a challenge in assessing how the team is progressing playing up an age division in league play. You can get caught up in the action and easily forget that our girls are a little smaller and a little less experienced. Now we have a clearer indication of where we are compared to a team in our own age group." This bodes well for the Under 8 Wanderers as the Mini Robbie Tournament is just around the corner. With the aid of technical coach Brian Barber and manager Dawn Dodig, the 99s will be ready! Local 'hams' take it to the streets June 23-24 Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of ham radio operators providing communications in emergencies world-wide. The weekend of June 23-24 local residents will have a chance to meet and talk with ham radio operators and see for themselves what this "radio service" really is about. The Peel Amateur Radio Club will be holding a demonstration of emergency communications abilities at the Brampton Public Works Yard (425 Chrysler Drive) in Brampton from 2 p.m. June 23 to 2 p.m. June 24. This annual event, called "Field Day" tests the abilities of amateur radio operators to setup during an emergency. Using only generators, batteries or solar power, the hams construct emergency stations in parks, shopping malls and back yards to test their skills under all situations.
